"Kathy has been such an amazing support to me since starting my career in the mental health field a few years ago. She gave me the space to develop my skills as a new graduate social worker not only to support my own clients but also my own self care and professional needs. I am very thankful for her kind and encouraging approach to our supervision sessions."

“My work started with Kathy at Uni where she was my external clinical supervisor during my last placement of my Masters in Social Work. Kathy is a wealth of knowledge in relation to social work practice and theory. Above all, Kathy's biggest contribution to my practice is that she has an incredible way of encouraging me to involve in more self-reflection. After my Masters, I returned to my usual work at a Counselling Manager in an AOD community based organisation. I have continued my relationship with Kathy as my clinical supervisor after my placement and into this role due to her knowledge, expertise and support. I highly recommend Kathy as a Clinical Supervisor.”

“I was really struggling to write with purpose, focus and clarity. Thanks to Kathy’s review and feedback of my assessments, I took on her advice and writing essays got a lot easier, faster and improved my marks dramatically!”

“I had the privilege of being supervised by Kathryn Soper, who was my External Field Educator during my student placement. As an international student in Australia, I initially needed to learn about the intricacies of supervision. Kathy not only created a professional and supportive environment but also provided an effective mentorship throughout my placement.

Kathy’s commitment and punctuality in attending supervision greatly benefited me during my placement. She guided me to develop reflective practice, which helped me understand individual client circumstances while enabling me to use my theoretical knowledge to practice.

I am extremely grateful for Kathy's unwavering support, and working with her has been a cornerstone of my studies. I am confident that the valuable experience I gained under her supervision will provide me with a solid basis for my future endeavours in my social work career.”

“I had the privilege of having Kathy as my external field supervisor whilst I was completing my first placement. During our sessions, I felt safe and comfortable in expressing the progression of my social work skills and knowledge.

Kathy greatly assisted me to challenge my initial thought process through providing me with a fresh perspective on situations that occurred during practice. Kathy’s insight allowed for me to be able to explore and understand the bigger picture. As well as inspiring and encouraging me to seek past what the initial issue is to gain an understanding and awareness of the multifaceted lives of clients.

During our sessions, Kathy would assist me in connecting what I had learnt for the week with social work theories, skills, ethics and values. This has been foundational in developing my understanding and awareness of the interrelated nature of the learning I was completing at uni to my practice during placement.

Kathy provided me with a tremendous amount of support when I was dealing with personal issues that were impacting upon my personal and professional wellbeing. Kathy was able to assist me in developing strategies and boundaries to prevent burnout which are skills I will be able to carry with me throughout my career.

My weekly Zoom calls with Kathy provided me with clarity, support, and feedback on my practice. During the times in which I felt “lost” Kathy was able to provide me with reassurance and guidance. Kathy assisted me in furthering my critical self reflection in order to improve my social work skills. Through doing this, we were able to develop strategies to achieve the goals I had set out for my placement.

Kathy has a good sense of humour, and is a kind, knowledgeable and empathetic person. I would highly recommend Kathy as a supervisor. Her knowledge and skills assisted me in growing, not only professionally as a social worker, but also growth within my personal life.”

“It had been almost 15 years since I had left high school & done any form of academic writing. Although, I was in a high level leadership role for a bank managing 30 branches across QLD I did not have a formal degree. Returning to study was daunting because although I knew the content in practise, I did not know the formalities of academic writing. Kathy was able to coach/guide me through the difficulties of structured writing, grammar, punctuation, referencing & conveying ideas in an academic way which built my confidence throughout my learning journey. Kathy’s support was the difference between a pass & a distinction. I finished my graduate certificate in business with an overall grade of Distinction. I couldn’t have done it without her support. I would recommend her to anyone that needs support in academic writing or that just needs that extra sense check to make sure you’re on the right path.”
